Funding the council

Information about funding the council

Draycott in the Moors Parish Council is a Government body and as such our funding is included in your Council Tax bills – this funding is referred to as the Annual Precept.
We receive this precept payment in two instalments, April and September.

Each January we hold a meeting to discuss the income and expenditure needs required to run the Parish Council for the next financial year.

Parish Councils are also eligible to seek UK grants and funding and EU money as is appropriate for special projects.

The council’s precept money is used to fund the spending of the Parish Council; and is used for employee salaries, spending on local amenities and general administration.
No permission is needed from any other authority to decide spending.

Parish councils have some legally required spending obligations.  They must fund their own elections and by-elections (which take place should a councillor resign or leave).

Parish Councillors are all volunteers and receive no remuneration for their time or service.
The Parish Council employs the Parish Clerk to carry out administration on its behalf.
