Annual Parish Assembly
Information about the annual parish assembly
Each year an ‘Annual Parish Meeting’ (also known as a Parish Assembly or Village Assembly) is held.
This is not a meeting of the parish council, but a democratic open forum in which the electors of Draycott & Cresswell & Totmonslow come together themselves and set the agenda. It is a tradition in rural areas and goes back over a century.
Open discussion of village issues is encouraged.
Though it is not a council meeting, the council chairperson usually chairs the meeting and the council clerk will write up an agenda. Electors should suggest agenda items.
The set-up can be whatever electors decide, but there are usually reviews of the past year given by the various representatives, which must be followed by an open forum to question them.
All village community organisations are also usually invited to ‘display their wares’ at this event.
It must be held in either March, April or May.
